Always remember that these two things are inseparable in this industry, just like in life – if you have a reputation as a writer who presents high quality work, is courteous and punctual with people’s time, and presents themselves as a collaborator, not an obstructionist, you’ll find that people are infinitely more interested in working with you.

Knowing how to sell a screenplay means that you are capable of, and are continuing to do, the following things:

– Show them your work (or portfolio, if it’s more than one piece of work) in a way that is very easy to understand

– Understanding how to sell a screenplay means knowing that you’re working in tandem with other
people to achieve a common goal – the name of the game is collaboration.

– Have commercially viable screenplays that producers and executives are genuinely excited to work on this is a large part of understanding how to sell a screenplay

– Be professional and to the point – you may be friends with the person you’re talking shop with, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have a job to do!

– Knowing how to sell a screenplay means not wasting people’s time – time is the most valuable commodity in Hollywood, and if you waste someone’s time, they will almost certainly not ever want to do business with you ever again. Do not be that person, and always be respectful of the other person’s time.

Never give anybody a screenplay that is not the best representation of your writing at the time.
